Thanksgiving Feast

Monday was Kyle's Thanksgiving Feast at school - his first performance! - and he was the cutest Pilgrim on stage! I must say that after years of being a music educator, it thrills my heart to see my little performer on stage SINGING! He sang, he did the motions, he clapped, and he did it all while looking at the audience and not turned around, sitting down or picking his nose!

Kyle had quite the audience to see him - Mommy and Daddy, Uncle Mark and Aunt Elizabeth and Granpa were all there to cheer him on. It was a lot of fun to be there surrounded by family. After the performance we enjoyed the "feast" of finger sandwiches, chips, cheese and dessert - he picked the cupcake with the turkey ring on top (so I picked one too, just so big sister could get a turkey ring too!) - and I have pictures of yellow icing on him to prove it!

Thursday will be Kathryn's day to shine (and I will be making 15 sandwiches tonight to take to the feast).

Happy Thanksgiving!

Back to Blogging

I guess I've been on sabbatical from blogging but I'm back! Since my last post we have:

---been to New Braunfels for a weekend away with Barbara and Doug - what a great time we had at their home, the children's museum, eating yummy food both at home (super chef Barb!) and out, fun on the boat at Doug's parent's home, swimming in the river (can you say it's GROSS when your feet are sticking in the mud!), looking for frogs and just playing!

---been to Colorado for a week in Estes Park and the Rocky Mountain National Park - we enjoyed time with my parents, hiking to Alberta Falls, couting elk, geocaching, riding old cars, the big slide, driving Trail Ridge, climbing on rocks and trails and of course the infamous Donut Haus!

---started another school year - Kathryn is in TK (4 days) and Kyle in preschool (3 days). They are loving it - Kathryn is starting to learn to read!! and Kyle is doing great. They both love going and being with their friends. It's such a joy to watch them grow into little people and develop their own personalities. We are blessed to have wonderful teachers and classmates for both of them this year.

---had a 5th Birthday party for Kathryn - a High School Musical party on my brother's movie screen (shameless plug: www.texasbackyardparties.com ) We had 10 friends over to watch the movie larger than life in our front yard - it was so much fun!

There's more but for the most part that's us!

Revolving Door

Some days I feel like my kitchen must have a revolving door on it. My kids are constantly hungry. Some days I haven't even finished wiping down their faces and cleaning the breakfast dishes before they are asking me if it is snack time or where we are going for lunch. Are their tummies bottomless pits?!

I'm thankful that I have a husband who works to provide for us so that we have good food to eat in our home and snacks for our kids. I'm thankful that I have kids who are not picky eaters and like to try new things. I'm thankful that they like to share (I'll give you a cracker if you give me a pretzel). I'm thankful that I hear giggles as they eat their snacks.

Hmmm...right now I hear giggles and water running at the same time- might mean my kitchen has moved into cleaning play time instead of snack time. Guess I should be thankful they love to clean!

Teachable Moments

When I was a teacher we talked about "teachable moments" - those times where the opportunity arises to teach a child something unplanned but perfectly fitting for the moment's life lesson.

Parenting is ALL about teachable moments. Sometimes I smile at how God was preparing me to be a teacher when I was teaching in the public schools. Teaching my 2 kiddos is very different from teaching my 500 kiddos, but you get the picture.

Anywho, today's teachable moment: Flying Boogies
Driving down highway, making the turn from 121 to 75, Kyle has a tissue (after I have told him to get his fingers out of his nose 3 times) I tell him when he is done to drop the tissue on the floor - Mommy doesn't want his boogies in front with me. Suddenly from the back seat comes a flying tissue full of boogies into the front seat, it hits me and scares me. Hello teachable moment! We pull off the highway (into a parking lot) and talk right then about not throwing things in the car and not scaring Mommy while I'm driving.

The wonderful joys of being a mom. I love my job! :)

The swing set

Today we met my nephew and sister-in-law for lunch at Sonic then went to their house for swimming. IT WAS HOT - it was supposed to be 103 here today! We had a great time at the pool. Kathryn is doing so well - I'm really proud of how far she's come this summer with her swimming - she's becoming quite a fish. Kyle did his typical try to play in the pool and only stay on the steps but YEA for Aunt Elizabeth who took him into the water to play basketball - she even got him underwater a few times (with his mouth closed which is an accomplishment!).

Right now Kevin and his dad are putting the finishing touches on the swing set they built on the 4th of July (it's getting a roof). We really appreciate all the help from his Dad to help build it. Kathryn LOVES to swing. I think Kyle's favorite part is climbing UP ths slide. This picture is of them building on the 4th.

The next picture is of all of us playing on it when it was done on the 4th.
Kathryn has since learned how to hang upside down from the
trapeeze - it's cute!

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a BLOG!

I have so many friends who blog and I've thought it about it for quite a while. Well, I guess today I decided it was time to give it a try! I don't promise to post daily (or multiple times daily as some friends are able to do) but I do promise to update this as I can.

So this Blog is about my family - my sweet husband, Kevin (for 8 great years) and our two kiddos - Kathryn (who will tell you she is 4 1/2 - almost 5) and Kyle (who just turned 3), our dog Charlie (he doesn't start with a K, but our nephews have often referred to him as "KaCharlie") and myself, Kimberly.

I hope that as this comes together you can enjoy reading about our family adventures, daily funnies and general craziness in our home. We aren't wild and crazy, but we do love to have fun together!

Here we go!
